    Position Summary

    Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as Vice President, People & Culture. If you join us in this position, you will direct and oversee the company’s People plans in ways that support our mission and overall strategy for the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. This role will have high accountability and report directly to the CEO. We want candidates who are strategic creative thinkers, effective leaders and problem-solvers. This is a full-time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.

    Your Mission

    • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team with responsibility for developing a team culture that drives high performance---connect with the Virgin Brand
    • Leads a team of HR professionals ensuring process excellence and teammate advocacy.
    • Work with the CEO and the leadership team to evolve the organization structure and philosophy.
    • Continue the evolution of this start-up’s People policies and keep us current with the best approaches methods and policies
    • Finds ways to ensure every aspect of the teammate lifecycle is unique and a very “Virgin” experience
    • Provides HR leadership and direction, partnering with the Leadership Team, to ensure HR strategies and tactics align with business objectives.
    • Leads core HR annual programs including but not limited to: objective setting, performance evaluations, compensation planning, talent assessment and workforce planning.
    • Effectively structure People programs to attract and retain top talent
    • Provides coaching and counseling to management to help enhance their teammate’s productivity
    • Matches resource capability to changing business requirements and conditions; maintains a workforce plan with resource projections.
    • Understanding and experience with Employer Branding and Recruitment Marketing strategies
    • Partners and provides senior leadership with recommendations on organizational structure based on the business objectives
    • Ensures we always meet our legal and compliance obligations (both federal and CA-specific)

    What you bring

    If you want to join us, you’d better have all of these…

    • Advanced degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related fields
    • SPHR or similar certifications will be an advantage
    • 15+ years’ experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Human Resources; minimum of 5 years in a senior-level human resources position.
    • Excellent program management skills. Can go from concept to execution flawlessly and lead project teams.
    • Can easily organize high workload to meet changing priorities and deadlines
    • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed and fast paced, high performance R&D environment
    • Comfortable with ambiguity, rapidly changing environments, and building from scratch
    • Ability to combine great people intuition, business judgment and discretion in your decision-making
    • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on company’s success
    • Limited travel to Mojave, CA, approximately 10-20%.
    • Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
    • Driven, highly motivated, and committed to improvement
    • Ability to add something unique and positive to our team
    • Generally high level of all-around awesomeness

    • Experience within aerospace, aviation or manufacturing is preferred.
    • Combination of large and small firm employer experience.
    • Excellent computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

    ITAR Requirements

    To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
