  • Overview

    Promote the mission of Ventura County Credit Union by performing community outreach, specifically in the areas of Financial Literacy, community partnerships, and SEG development. Retain and expand existing relationships with current Select Employee Groups (SEGs) and to solicit new relationships and other account relationships from prospective employers with a focus on overall credit union revenue growth. Develop relationships with SEGs, prospective SEGs and other community groups to increase the overall level of business for VCCU. Call on existing or prospective SEGs within the framework of a community/business development program, including identification of target groups, suitable method of contact and determination of their needs and appropriate products/services. Build and maintain a portfolio of members within groups; discuss and cross-sell appropriate products and services. Achieve specific business development goals; document activities and prepare reports as needed. Work with managers and departments as needs arise. Several days per week represent the credit union at community events, work related functions and SEG on-sites (enrolling new members, securing loan applications, and cross selling additional services). This employee is expected to maintain a professional comportment at all times and comply with all Credit Union policies and procedures, including Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality.

    COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Helps to achieve Credit Union goals by meeting expected standards for position, department and region, cross-selling appropriate products and services, and knowing Credit Union policies and procedures and where to find information.
    • Responsible for targeted SEG development and community outreach with budgeting responsibility and discretion. Adheres to assigned signing authority limits.
    • Uses independent judgement with minimal manager oversight to facilitate strategic relationships with SEGs and community partners. This may require a majority of time being spent outside the office presenting the Credit Union as a financial partner benefit.
    • Development and continual oversight of formal financial literacy program(s) focused on SEG and member education.
    • Discretional responsibility over other programs/projects as assigned.
    • Represents the Credit Union at community events, business gatherings, and social events with the objective of developing partnerships, sponsorships and membership development in the community.
    • Seeks potential companies to add to our field of membership according to VCCU’s Community Development focus and keeps abreast of potential new business opportunities from VCCU’s client base and potential client base and communicates that to supervisor.
    • Helps maintain strong relations with occupational group liaisons through verbal and written communication to include but not limited to Liaison packets, emails, fax, phone, in-person meetings, special events, educational seminars and proposals.
    • Identifies and initiates participation in activities that build goodwill with current and potential SEG’s and the community serviced by VCCU, including charitable and community service organizations.
    • Keep abreast of current market trends, new technology, financial products, competitor tactics and all regulatory and compliance issues that may impact business development programs in order to remain competitive and productive.
    • Assists in maintaining accurate information on the business development tracking databases, including, but not limited to company’s address, Liaisons names and titles, telephone number, other contacts names, documented relationship notes and other pertinent company information. Keeps additional SEG records, files and communication samples.
    • Produces timely, accurate and complete reporting for all business development activities, results, plans, etc.
    • Efficiently manages time and resources responsibly, including expenses, materials, assistance, etc.
    • This position is required to attend community functions, which may be early morning, evenings, and/or weekends, as scheduled.
    • Performs duties related to opening new accounts and establishing new memberships. Opens all types of share accounts. Maintains thorough understanding of related documentation and procedures for all New Accounts functions.

    MEMBER SERVICES – ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Travel to/from farm locations with supplies needed to conduct member service.
    • Projects a positive image in the credit union industry at all times.
    • Track number of accounts opened, interest expressed, and transactions generated for management reports.
    • Performs duties related to opening new accounts and establishing new memberships. Opens all types of share accounts. Maintains thorough understanding of related documentation and procedures for all New Accounts functions.
    • Performs duties related to originating and funding loans. Interviews loan applicants, processes consumer loans on system, follows up on approved or pending loans, collects stipulations required for funding, prepares and signs members to consumer loan documents, assembles loan documentation for submission to Quality Control Department.
    • Act as Credit Union product and service resource for members, providing information, applications and active interaction to assist members with learning about, applying for and opening accounts.
    • Maintains familiarity and complies with all regulations specific to branches (Bank Secrecy Act, Reg CC, Reg E, Patriot Act, etc.).
    • Supports the mission of VCCU by providing quality service to members by treating them with respect and courtesy at all levels.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

    ALL EMPLOYEES MUST QUALIFY FOR AND MAINTAIN A FIDELITY BOND

    • Four-year degree in business, communication, or related field. Three to five years’ directly related experience will be accepted in lieu of degree.
    • Minimum of three years’ directly related experience in public relations/community outreach, SEG development, or financial services and sales is required.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Requires thorough knowledge of Credit Union products and services. You must have strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to operate all basic office equipment, including mobile devices/applications, and must be highly proficient in standard MS Office applications. Position requires more than average amount of driving; therefore, employee must own their own car or have daily access to a vehicle, and possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance. You will constantly operate computer equipment using a keyboard, 10 touch keypads and other like office equipment to accurately calculate figures and input data. You will often reach on top of high cabinets for items; often position yourself to get under desks and cabinets; and constantly communicate effectively and efficiently with employees, members and vendors. The employee is frequently required to traverse across the office. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must frequently move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of members, consumers, employees of organizations and management both internally and externally.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must have a valid Class C driver’s license and a clean driving record. Must have automobile insurance.
