Job Description

Electrical Estimator (#12588640)

Potential Location(s): Greater Greenville Area SC
Classification: Full-Time (Permanent)

Are you looking for an opportunity where your attention to detail has a direct correlation to company growth and profitability? Do you desire to be a part of a company who’s set to grow substantially by 2020 and beyond? Do you want to challenge not only your technical skills but your team skills and customer skills? Do you want to work for a company where your work ethic pays great dividends towards your personal growth and reward?

For example, take this search we’re now working on. It involves an electrical manufacturing firm who provides state of the art cable bus and cable tray systems to their customers. This firm is already at the head of the pack in their industry, but they are wanting to extend their lead through product innovation and great customer care. They’ve asked us to find an Electrical Estimator who can play a key role in helping them reach the next step in their growth.

If you’re interested, here’s what year one is all about. The key performance objectives listed below describe how you will be successful at our client’s organization.

Key Performance Objectives:
  • Within the first 30 days you will start gaining product knowledge and product manufacturing by being on the factory floor learning production flow as well as production capacity. With this knowledge, you will be able to better understand how your quoted cable bus designs can be scheduled and manufactured in the factory.
  • Within the first 60 days you will continue gaining product knowledge and shadowing the quotations and engineering groups learning material takeoffs, cable routing, and NEC design parameters. With this knowledge, you will also work with sales and begin to set pricing in the AS400 system for multiple small projects.
  • By the end of 6 months, you will be expected to have gained substantial product knowledge of cable bus systems including how to quote these systems to customers by talking directly with these customers, while at the same time continuing to shadow sales, estimators, engineers and production staff.
  • By Year 1, you will be providing complete cable bus system quotes at a typical volume of 33 quotes per week. You will be working directly and independently with our client’s customers, their outside sales force, their engineering design team, as well as their production engineering and production management teams to deliver cable bus solutions to be manufactured on the factory floor.
“Day 1” Knowledge & Experience:
If you can accomplish the above, you’ve probably got what it takes. Realistically though, it will be helpful for you to have prior knowledge of the NEC code, UL and CSA standards as it relates to cable bus systems. Specifically, you will need to understand cable sizing, routing, cable voltage and amperage ratings, as well as cable voltage drop calculations. You will need to be able to read blueprint drawings for translating customer needs/designs to a final manufactured cable bus solution.

From a software perspective, prior experience with AutoCAD and AS400 will help you go a long way as these software systems are the key systems for our client’s electrical design, ERP/quoting and manufacturing respectively. You will need to be proficient with Microsoft Excel for communicating bill of materials (BOM) to the appropriate stake holders.

Beyond Year 1:
You have the potential to play a key role in leadership within our client’s organization. There’s opportunity to grow within the current position or even outside the current position. Your work ethic can literally create a position for you as our client continues to grow.
