Engineering Technician I - Control Systems (Summer Internship)

Job Description
The purpose of this position is to assist Control Systems Engineers working primarily on oil and gas projects. Projects are executed by a task force consisting of a diverse group of engineering disciplines. The applicant will apply their basic engineering knowledge to help with the following tasks:

• Sizing of control valves, pressure safety relieve valves, flow orifices, thermowells, and other instruments

• Preparation of instrument datasheets and requests for vendor quotes for the above items

• Development of cause and effect tables that summarize the impact of upset conditions on the plant

• Collaboration with other engineering disciplines on the development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams

• Aid in the preparation of Control Narratives that describe how the process is controlled

• Assist in the development of logs to track project deviations and weekly status reports

• Conduct back checks of engineering deliverable(s)

• Other duties as assigned

Additional Information
• Fluor has two offices: one in Aliso Viejo and one in Long Beach. Although work location preference is taken into account, applicant should be willing to work in either location if necessary as staffing is ultimately based on the needs of each Project. Van pools are available to those assigned to projects that are executed from our Long Beach office

• The Aliso Viejo office works 9 hour days Mon-Thurs, 8 hours on Friday, and take every other Friday off

• The Long Beach office works a 4 by 10 hour schedule: 10 hour Mon-Thurs with every Friday off

Basic Job Requirements
• Working towards a Chemical Engineering degree in Junior or Senior year with a 3.0 or greater GPA

• Ability to communicate effectively with managers, coworkers, clients, vendors, and contractors

• Proficient computer and software skills including a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point. Experience with CAD and database software is desirable but not required. Applicant will be expected to learn how to use specialized engineering software programs

Other Job Requirements

• Participate in Control Systems Department, Project, and other meetings
