Overall Job Objective
- DEFINITION/SELECTION PROCESS
- Under direction of the Aquatics Manager, the Water Safety Instructor organizes and instructs swim classes, observe swimmers in the pool area, respond to unsafe conditions or potential hazards, and perform related work as required.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Teaches swim strokes and water safety rules to different age groups and individuals with varying abilities; develops special aquatic events; explains and enforces facility regulations, policies and procedures to participants; rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid; monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents; maintains accurate records and prepares reports; assists in performing cleaning services of pool and other assigned areas; and performs related work as required. Water Safety Instructors will work a varying schedule of hours which may include early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Certifications Required: Possession of current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate, Standard First Aid Certificate, and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.Education/Experience: Any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abilities. Minimum Age is 17 Years.Knowledge of: Beginning through advanced swim strokes; lifesaving and swimming principles and practices; and first aid principles and practices.Ability to: Teach swimming and lifesaving methods; organize and conduct a variety of aquatic programs; maintain accurate records and prepare reports; and establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
