Job Title: Model Governance Manager

Reports to Model Risk Manager

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Work Location: Los Angeles, CA

Education/Experience Requirements

Minimum Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree (Master preferred) in finance/business/economics/law or related discipline

Minimum Years of Experience: 15 years of banking experience with an in-depth understanding of banking systems and products

Responsibilities & Duties

·         Maintain and continuously enhance model risk policies and procedures, Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), process maps, validation templates/checklists, model information/determination forms, inventory certification, and other documents

·         Drive the exploration and improvement of governance frameworks for both model and non-model forecasting approaches

·         Manage the database for model/tool inventory, validation findings and remediation. Follow up with coming due items

·         Facilitate Model Risk Management Committee meeting: prepare meeting agenda, produce minute, organize meeting materials, create presentation slides, track action items, and summarize information package for ERMC and BRC

·         Interact with Enterprise Risk team to prepare related document, i.e. the risk appetite, risk assessment, issue tracking, examination management, RCSA, policies and any reporting items to the Committees bank-wide

·         Interact with the Internal Audit team and Regulatory Affairs team as necessary to report on model governance progress with action plans and overall model governance activity in response to audit/regulatory requests

·         Submit timely reports and prepare presentations/proposals as assigned

·         Collaborates with management, model owners/users and third parties on matters pertaining to model risk management

·         Provide guidance/training to line of business and stakeholders to ensure adherence to relevant model policy requirements

·         Develop detailed project/resource plans to monitor and track progress

·         Assist with the production of model validation activities including validation report writing

·         Manage the effort to review model performance and ensure clear documentation and validation reports are in place

·         Accomplish managerial responsibilities including managing direct reports, providing ongoing mentorship, hiring team members, and completing daily management tasks

·         Assist with risk projects and other ad-hoc initiatives

·         Gain in-depth understanding of the latest industry research and standards on modeling, statistics, and regulations

 

Job Qualifications/Requirements

·         Required: Strong technical writing, communication, verbal, and interpersonal skills

·         Required: Experience in a governance role designing and implementing effective enterprise-wide second line of defense

·         Required: Ability to develop and manage risk-related policies and procedures

·         Required: Experience documenting model development or model validation processes

·         Required: Knowledge of banking systems and products and risk management methodologies

·         Required: Knowledge of model risk management and related regulatory requirements (SR11-7, SR12-7, SR16-12, etc.)

·         Required: Proven project management capabilities with experience managing team members

·         Required: Experience liaising with outside stakeholders including external consultants/vendors

·         Required: Ability to initiate action and manage change in a fast-paced environment, as well as present development plans and articulate complex ideas to executive managers

·         Required: Sound analytical skills with a mindset towards critical thinking and problem solving

·         Preferred: Experience working with data and large databases

·         Preferred: Disciplined and self-motivated with a proven record of delivering high-quality results within strict deadlines
