The position reports to the Director of the Office of Credentials with additional support given by the Lead Credential Analyst. As a designated Credential Analyst to the State of California, this position has university authority to recommend teacher and service credentials to the State of California’s Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). In coordination with the Dean, Associate/Assistant Deans, Director, Lead Credential Analyst, Department Chairs, and Program Directors, this position oversees credential advising in the School of Education, the implementation of processes and procedures for recommending CA teacher and service credentials for student candidates, serves in a liaison role for program compliance with credential requirements, and reports data related to credentials at a state and federal level. In addition, the position serves as an academic adviser to candidates enrolled in Preliminary Teaching Credential Programs. This position may have a non-standard schedule.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Required Experience

  • Five-seven years of professional experience preferably in the area of credentialing.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains knowledge of:
    • CTC regulations, procedures and requirements
    • Educational practices relating to the credentialing function in the California school system
    • Curriculum offered and program requirements for credential programs offered in School of Education
    • Laws, rules, and regulations related to teacher education and the granting of credentials for public school service in California
    • APU Graduate Admissions, Registrar, and Student Financial Services’ regulations, procedures, policies, and academic requirements relating to admission to credential programs, advising, and credentialing
    • Division of Teacher Education course offerings, course sequencing, policies and procedures related to the academic advising of candidates
  • Interprets, analyzes, applies, and implements CTC regulations, procedures, and academic requirements in support of credential candidates and to ensure accurate academic advising.
  • Interacts with, shares expertise, and collaborates with School of Education departments, regional campuses, other offices/departments in the university, school systems, and state agencies related to the granting of credentials for public school service in California and related to the academic advising of Division of Teacher Education credential candidates.
  • Academic evaluation, analysis, and recommendation for candidates enrolled in, completing, or seeking admission to credential programs. These evaluations and analysis may include:
    • Evaluation and recommendation of APU candidate’s credential applications
    • Evaluation and review of candidate status within a School of Education credential program
    • Evaluation of transcripts for candidates to determine coursework equivalencies to assist candidates in coursework planning
    • Evaluation of out-of-state and out-of-country transcripts, and other documents for California credentials
    • Evaluation and recommendation for additional credential authorizations and subject-matter waivers
    • Evaluation and preparation of documents for APU completers seeking credentials out-of-state
    • Evaluation of student files for accurate academic advising and preparation of advising forms for Division of Teacher Education credential candidates
  • Provides a high level of customer service to students. This customer service may include:
    • Preparation of letters for students to verify eligibility for employment and status of credential or program
    • Provision of information on possible credential options
    • Preparation of letters of denial or appeal when a candidate has not met requirements for a credential
    • Provision of accurate advising forms to Division of Teacher Education credential candidates during advising/re-advising sessions in person, by phone, or through technological means.
  • Strives to continually build knowledge and skills related to the granting of credentials for public school service in California; includes attending annual CCAC Conference and CTC workshops throughout the year as scheduled.
  • Reviews admission files for candidates to the School of Education and evaluates admission files for credential issues. This includes reviewing bachelor’s degree for regional accreditation, checking for a certificate of clearance, etc. Additionally, completes admissions rubrics for all new applicants to Preliminary Teaching Credential programs.
  • Runs reports related to credential activities and data. Ensures School of Education data systems are accurately capturing data related to credentials. Responsible for reporting data related to credentials as required in state and federal statute. Serves as a point of contact for credential programs and other offices in the university as they have need for credential related reports and data.
  • Regular, punctual attendance as required by the supervisor based on department needs.
  • Performs other duties related to the job as assigned by supervisor.


  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products, including Word and Excel.
  • Proficiency in Google Applications, including Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Hangouts.
  • Able to use computer, data systems in the School of Education, and spreadsheets with skill and accuracy.
  • Written and oral communication skills to prepare clear, accurate correspondence and reports and to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally in person, by phone, or email.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

  • Ability to learn procedures, retain information, and adjust to new processes and credential regulations.
  • Agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students.

Physical Demands

  • Constant use of computer keyboard and mouse, requiring repetitive wrist, finger, and arm motions.
  • Hearing and speaking on the telephone.
  • Able to conduct business at other offices on campus and regional centers.
  • Ability to lift, pull, stoop to lower file drawers and reach to top of five-drawer file cabinet.
  • Able to lift up to 20lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to sit for longer periods of time.

Visual Demands

  • Computer monitor and reading.

  • Grade 10: $53,950 - $70,135 annual
