I.          TITLE:          Accounting Manager

II.        PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Administration or related field
  • Two (2) to four (4) years general accounting experience in a non-profit setting
  • Practical knowledge of principles and procedures of fund accounting
  • Experience using spreadsheet and automated accounting software
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of general ledger/payroll and payables/receivables
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment

III.       REPORTS TO:         Controller

IV.       POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for safeguarding the financial assets of the agency.  This includes oversight/processing the general ledger, payroll, payables/receivables and all related schedules.  The Accounting Manager assures that finance and accounting functions are consistently maintained and meet generally recognized accounting standards.

V.        DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

            Ledger/Statements

  • Supervise posting and balancing of ledgers, cash receipts and journals
  • Create and generate reports of the automated general ledger system

Payroll

  • Oversee payroll process, maintain payroll system and procedures, respond to employee inquiries/concerns
  • Make recommendations for modifications and changes to payroll system as needed

Payables/Receivables

  • Oversee/process payables and receivables
  • Make decisions regarding account designation as needed
  • Handle problems directly with vendors, respond to inquiries
  • Generate related reports
  • Prepare billing for agency contracts

Audits

  • Assist Controller in preparation of audits

VI.       GENERAL:

  • Maintain confidentiality in matters of agency operations, personnel and clients
  • Maintain positive communications with all agency staff, clients and visitors
  • Exercises good judgment in performance of duties and responsibilities
  • Support existing agency policies, principles and mission
  • Other related duties as assigned
