Job: Deli Manager

A key contact for Safeway, Inc. customers who provides friendly, courteous and helpful service. Operates computerized cash register to itemize and total customer's purchases in the deli department. Collects cash, check, or charge payment from customer and makes change for transactions. Weighs items, redeems food stamps and promotional coupons.

Trains, supervises, schedules and assigns duties to deli clerks. Follows division guidelines for the implementation of the merchandising program. Rotates product and removes out-of-date product daily. Changes signs and prices as directed by deli merchandising. Inventories floor stock and cooler stock daily. Writes deli order in the order guide book and enters into computer. Checks order for completeness upon arrival.

Responsible for maintaining appropriate stock and inventory in the deli area. Makes sandwiches, barbecued and fried chicken, sausage, corn dogs, deli salads. Slices and wraps meats and cheeses for special order or to fill the dairy case. Prepares, deli, fruit or seasonal trays. Weighs items using a computerized scale. Wraps items and affixes price to item. May take orders in person or over the telephone. Wipes down counters with a bleach-water solution regularly.

Wash dishes or cooking utensils by hand or using machine. Sweeps floors and wipes up spills as needed. Clean roasters, slicers, and other food preparation tools daily. Supervises, schedules and assigns duties to deli clerks.

Shift work to include: weekdays, weekends, and varied schedules - Reflected by store operational needs.
