Job: Director of Instruction

The Mission of Carden Virtual Academy is to deliver a high quality, high tech, high touch, standards-based, individualized learning environment, providing a variety of media rich, online and print learning materials and resources. Our highly qualified, certified teachers will work with parents as educational partners to design a personalized learner plan that will offer the student the flexibility to reach individual goals outside the walls of a classroom environment. The Director of Instruction reports to the Executive Director and assists in managing the school and its instructional resources. The Director of Instruction is responsible for interviewing and recommending hires of all instructional staff to the Executive Director and the Governing Board. The Director of Instruction is responsible for teacher evaluations and coordinating all professional development and professional staff development programs. The Director of Instruction is also responsible for ensuring that all instructional staff hold and maintain appropriate certifications.

Responsibilities:

Support the Executive Director with development and implementation of the mission and vision of the school.

Lead staff meetings and communicate frequently with staff members.

Demonstrate knowledge of and model the use of current online instructional strategies.

Participate and lead professional development activities both online and onground.

Facilitate communication and build professional relationships with the Governing Board through phone calls, email, memos, meeting agendas, reports, presentations and handout materials.

Supervise online teacher use of the online learning management system and monitor effective teaching using both online and in person strategies.

Develop community relationships by contributing to school message boards, online newsletters and online and in person events.

Maintain current knowledge regarding California teacher credentials and highly qualified requirements and definitions.

Make recommendations and decisions in the selection and hiring of personnel based on ability, qualifications, past performance and school needs.

Mentor and train new teachers in the learning management system and the effective methods on online instruction for parents and students.

Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations and policies for teacher certification and highly qualified requirements under No Child Left Behind.

California Principal or Administrative License, or equivalent.

Minimum five years teaching experience preferably in an online environment.

Masters Degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design or similar area.

Experience teaching and/or participating in an e-learning/online learning course.

Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Ability to travel within San Bernardino County and adjacent counties throughout the year.

Proficiency with multimedia communications tools such as discussion boards, weblogs, email, instant messaging, audio and video podcasts, and learning management systems.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.

Strong written and verbal skills.
