GENERAL FUNCTION:
Perform a variety of duties as it relates to the responsibility, safety, development, supervision and management of the children in the preschool program. 1. Oversee the daily operation of the program including but not limited to: daily schedules, developmentally appropriate activities, staff schedules, breaks and coordinate parent conferences. 2. Ensure proper implementation of ECERS, NAEYC and State Licensing requirement to ensure a quality program. 3. Hire, train, develop and evaluate all staff to ensure proper NAEYC and ECERS standards are implemented and used in the program. To include workshops, orientation sessions, hands on training/mentoring, staff meetings etc. 4. Responsible for all state funded reporting including but not limited to attendance records for staff and children, children progress reports, children’s status changes within the program, ouch reports, inventory of program supplies and equipments. 5. Models and promotes positive behavior, attitude and language while developing positive conflict resolution skills among children, parents and staff. Maintains open lines of communication with parents, staff and administration. 6. Conducts in a range of activities that promote family involvement, membership by design, and relationship by design. 7. Follow center and Association policies and procedures for health and safety and nutrition. 8. Integrate Character Development values (caring, responsibility, respect, and honesty) into curriculum and interaction with children, staff and parents and be a role model with those values. 9. Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor. 10. Maintain updated and accurate records surrounding children, staff and parent meetings, memos and letters on site at all times. 11. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor Skills / Requirements
Education & Certifications:
Must be 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent required. A combination of training, education and experience, which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position. 60 units or an AA degree on Early Childhood Education. Must have an Early Childhood Education Certificate and six (6) units of Early Childhood Education Administration – may be engaged in a program working towards this goal. Additional Requirements: Criminal Clearance: including Fingerprints & Child Abuse Index Check, Health Exam to include TB test and clearance. Experience & Background: Two (2) years of preschool experience. Four (4) years of preschool teaching experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree requirement. Experience supervising and providing instruction to staff. Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
