Collecting and analyzing foreign electronic signals is vital to our nation's defense. The Signals Collector/Analyst exploits non-voice communications and other electronic signals and provides intelligence reports to tactical and strategic consumers. The Signals Collector/Analyst is primarily responsible for performing and supervising the detection, acquisition, location and identification of foreign electronic intelligence. Some of your duties as a Signals Collector/Analyst may include:

* Operate signal intelligence equipment and prepare logs and technical reports
* Search the radio frequency spectrum to collect, identify, and record target communications and selected categories or classes of electro-optic or foreign instrumentation signals.
* Perform basic signal analysis to determine signal parameters for identification and processing.
* Operate communications equipment for reporting and coordination

Skills / Requirements

Job training for a Signals Collector/Analyst requires of nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training and on-the-job instruction, including practice in interpretation.

Helpful attributes include:

* Interest in working with radio equipment
* Interest in finding clues that help answer questions
* Ability to remain alert while doing repetitive tasks

Advanced level Signals Collector/Analyst provides guidance, supervises and trains other Soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level Signals Collector/Analyst, you may be involved in:

* Operate signals intercept/analysis equipment
* Assist in the establishment of operational sites
* Maintain technical databases in support of analysis/collection operations
* Recognize and report items of intelligence interest
* Perform intermediate signals analysis to determine parameters for identification
* Perform Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) functions in support of collection operations
* Perform quality control processing and reporting procedures

The skills you gain as a Signals Collector/Analyst may allow you to work for government agencies like the National Security Agency, the FBI and the CIA. There are also related jobs in private electronics and communications.
