Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is seeking a well organized individual with excellent verbal, written, presentation, and customer service skills to join the Community Education Department as our Program Coordinator, Parent and Adult Education.
Essential Functions:
The Program Coordinator, Parent and Adult Education will provide coordination and support to all aspects of the Parent/Adult Education Program including supervision, promotion, outreach and facilitation for presentations and workshops for parents and caregivers. This position also includes, but is not limited to:
- Develop and maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide presentations and assist in trainings on topics such as PPLA services, human sexuality, parent-child communication, sexuality and developmental disabilities, teenage pregnancy, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and healthy relationships
- Coordinate all scheduling of parent presentations with schools, parent groups, agencies and community organizations
- Work in close collaboration with SEI manager and other C.E. staff to develop and pilot parent component of the Sexuality Education Initiative
- Coordinate all aspects of Lanterman parenting series, including seeking location sites,scheduling, Lanterman paperwork, invoicing and fee payment
- Work in collaboration with Promotoras Health Educator to develop a parent-child workshop series
- Coordinate all aspects of the series, including mailings, scheduling, evaluations, and data collection
- Recruit and supervise Parent Education volunteers
- Assist in trainings and maintain quality management of parent education volunteers
- Work in close collaboration with education program staff to link parent education programs to existing schools and community organizations
- Schedule and conduct presentations to adults on sexual and reproductive health
- Market “Conversations About Sex" through mailings, email blasts, school meetings, etc
- Report monthly the progress of all aspects of the Parent/Adult Education program towards reaching its goals
- Respond to Development Department requests for program numbers, information and stories for funding and grants
- Represent PPLA and the Parent/Adult Education Program at collaborative and community meetings
- Manage program materials, including brochures, packets, and preparation for trainings
- Create and design new presentations as needed
- Assist Director of School and Parent Programs, as needed and directed, in program reports, data collection and community outreach
Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, other adults and young people
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize and manage numerous projects simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail essential
- Professional appearance and attitude
- Availability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings as required
- Requires valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation
- Bilingual strongly preferred
Education and Experience:
- College degree preferred with a health education or social services background
- Experience in training/education/outreach with community services or health agency
