The Army communications maintenance team is responsible for making sure that all communications equipment is in top working order. This equipment allows the Army to track and direct troop, aircraft and watercraft movements. An Avionic Communications Equipment Repairer is an essential member of the Army communications maintenance team and is primarily responsible for performing field and sustainment level maintenance on aircraft communications equipment. Some of your duties as an Avionic Communications Equipment Repairer may include: * Maintain, test and repair communication equipment * Install and repair circuits and wiring * Calibrate and align equipment components * Troubleshoot faulty communications equipment * Replace faulty components and parts * Modify communication equipment * Perform operator maintenance on tools and test equipment Skills / Requirements
Job training for an Avionic Communications Equipment Repairer requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 19 weeks and four days of Advanced Individual Training and on-the-job instruction. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Some of the skills you'll learn are: * Mechanical, electronic and electrical principles * Preventive maintenance procedures * Line installation and wiring techniques Helpful attributes include: * Interest in mathematics, electricity or electronics repair and shop mechanics * Interest in working with electrical, electronic and electromechanical equipment * Ability to solve problems * Ability to work with tools Advanced level Avionic Communications Equipment Repairers provide guidance, supervise and train other Soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level Avionic Communications Equipment Repairer, you may be involved in: * Provide technical guidance to subordinate personnel * Schedule maintenance on test, measurement and diagnostic equipment * Troubleshoot and repair faulty circuit boards The skills you learn, as an Avionic Communications Equipment Repairer will prepare you for a future with civilian companies that design and make communications and electronic equipment. Radio repair, radio mechanics, teletype repair or station installation are all potential civilian positions available for your consideration. You might also consider a career with a civilian engineering company, the federal government or an aircraft and military hardware manufacturer. Through your extensive Army training and experience and some additional study, you may be able to qualify for Electronics Technician Association (ETA) certification as an Associate Certified Electronics Technician or a Journeyman Avionics Electronics Technician. * Avionic and Survivability Equipment Repairer (94R) * Radio and Communications Security (COMSEC) Repairer (94E) * Computer/Detection Systems Repairer (94F) Learn more about the relationship between military training and civilian certification requirements.
