Hundreds of Army missions depend on aircraft for transport, patrol and flight training. Instruments, lights, weapons, ignition systems, landing gears and many other aircraft parts are powered by electricity. It's up to the members of the aircraft electrician team to ensure that the electrical systems on helicopters are properly maintained and repaired. The AH-64A Armament/Electrical Systems Repairer is primarily responsible for performing aviation unit, intermediate and depot maintenance on the electrical, electronic, mechanical, and Pneudraulics systems associated with the AH-64A Apache helicopter, a twin-engine, four-bladed, multi-mission attack helicopter. Some of your duties as a AH-64A Armament/Electrical Systems Repairer may include: * Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in the AH-64A armament, electrical and avionic systems and components * Perform maintenance, authorized modifications and alignment on weapons components, fire control units, and sighting elements, electronic and mechanical devices * Perform operational and preventive checks on aircraft flight controls, stabilization systems, avionics and controlled cryptographic equipment * Perform ammunition loading/unloading and weapon subsystems configuration changes for all AH-64A fire control systems * Maintain facilities for storage of weapons, ammunition and weapons cleaning equipment and supplies * Troubleshoot equipment wiring harnesses * Test, troubleshoot and repair diagnostic equipment * Maintain records on weapons and subsystems Skills / Requirements
Job training for an AH-64A Armament/Electrical Systems Repairer requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 21 weeks and two days of Advanced Individual Training and on-the-job instruction, including practice in repairing electrical systems. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Some of the skills you'll learn are: * Electrical theory * Troubleshooting procedures * Soldering techniques * Electrical system maintenance Helpful attributes include: * An interest in mathematics and shop mechanics * An interest in solving problems * An interest in electricity and how electrical equipment works * An ability to work with tools Advanced level AH-64 Armament/Electrical Systems Repairer provides guidance, supervises and trains other Soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level AH-64A Armament/Electrical Systems Repairer, you may be involved in: * Participate in maintenance test flights as required * Schedule maintenance on test, measurement and diagnostic equipment * Alter or modify material according to DA approved modification work orders The skills you learn as an AH-64A Armament/Electrical Systems Repairer will help prepare you for a future with commercial airlines, aircraft maintenance firms, aircraft manufacturers or other organizations that might have fleets of airplanes or helicopters. * AH-64D Armament/Electrical/Avionic Systems Repairer (15Y) * Avionic Mechanic (15N) * OH-58D / ARH Helicopter Repairer (15S) Learn more about the relationship between military training and civilian certification requirements.
