Blog Post: Inland Empire Career Expo - Just Over Two Weeks Away!!!
posted Tuesday, March 25, 2008 3:37 PM
Now is the time to start preparing for your attendance at the Jobing.com Career Expo on Thursday, April 10th at the Ontario Convention Center. Spend some time checking out the list of attending employers, and research the ones you are interested in. Be prepared to let the employers know you made the effort to learn about them, and you definitely want to be their next great hire! You can also check out our website (or theirs) to find out more specifics about the jobs they are recruiting for, so you can ask job specific questions.
Another way to prepare is to practice with a friend to perfect your 30-second speech on why an employer wants to hire you! Get comfortable with the points you want to highlight, like your great attention to detail or your fantastic people skills, so you can express your enthusiasm and confidence when you start talking to employers. Remember to keep your focus on the positive! The next thing on your checklist should be checking out what you plan to wear to the job fair. Over Easter dinner, my sister brought up first dates and I got a great mental image of how job seekers should approach dressing for the job fair - like it's a first date! Think of it as if you're meeting the parents for the first time, and you definitely want them to know you are someone they can trust their son or daughter with. That means dressing to impress - things like dress shirts, dress pants, polished shoes, and appropriate coverage with the length of the skirt or the neckline of a blouse. Just like wanting to get that second date, you want to get that interview, and nothing says you are serious about your job search like dressing the part. You can also check out our website to see some examples of appropriate attire. If anything, keep in mind that these days unemployment is beginning to climb, which means you might be competing with more people for that great job, and you need to do everything you can to stand apart from the crowd. Remember a good job seeker treats the search like a full-time job, so put in the extra work and you will see the success of your efforts. Send thank you cards, brush up your resume, network network network - the more you use the tools provided, the more likely you are to find that great job! And you can do it at all at the Jobing.com Career Expo on Thursday, April 10th! We hope to see you there!
