Online Networking Networking is a vital part of your job search. One of the best ways for businesses to market their products and services is through networking. When you are searching for a new job, you are trying to market yourself, so why not use some of the same networking techniques that businesses use. Many surveys show that most people find jobs through networking. Someone that you know or meet knows about a job that is right for you. Or, someone that you know or meet knows someone, who knows someone, who knows about a job for you. Here are a few networking tips. Online Networking · Job Boards: Many job seekers post their resume on several job boards and wait for the offers to come in. Passive job hunting usually yields few, if any, prospects. Aggressively search for positions and employers and forward them your resume. Use all of the options that are available on job board web sites to do research and network with other job seekers. · Employers: Seek out employers that you would like to work for and visit their web site. Research the company and take a look at their career opportunities. · Networking: Talk online with other job seekers and ask questions of industry experts. Use networking opportunities such as blogging (Jobing.com), social networking (LinkedIn), chat rooms (MSN Groups), email, and other online networking arenas. · Something to remember when networking online, what you write on the Internet stays on the Internet. This is not a place to bash former employers, bosses, or co-workers. Stick to the topic and you can get a lot of useful information and interaction.
