Blog Post: Allow me to introduce myself

posted Wednesday, June 27, 2007 9:44 AM

My name is Brett.  I’ve teamed up with Jobing to do something tremendously cool this summer, where myself and three recent college grads will be traveling around America in a gigantic 30 foot RV to interview people who love their work.

We’ve dubbed this tour Pursue the Passion because our goal with the project is to provide career guidance from these interviews that help job seekers find work they will be passionate about.  The tour kicks off from Phoenix on July 2 nd , so really soon, and we will be cruising through Los Angeles July 8 th -14 th .

Throughout the 90-day, 14,000 mile journey I will be blogging on Jobing to keep you up to date with our findings from talking with 200 professionals about how they developed their passion.  I will also write about the behind the scene stories from traveling with 4 guys in an RV…should be interesting.

See you in L.A. !

Go for it, but.... this was done on PBS and a book was written about it as well, so while it isn't an original idea, I suppose you will individually get something out of it. The show showed three guys traveling in an RV meeting successful people all over the US. I think Jerry Colangelo was one of them. But again, you are uniquely you so if you need to do this and are in collaboration with Jobing.com to do it ....I wish you the best!

Yes Melissa, what we are doing has been done dating back to Napolean Hill and Andrew Carneige, to most recently, Po Bronson. People are consistently picking the brains of others so they can benefit from the advice they receive and produce material to help others.

Our idea is original, because as far as I know, I've never heard of anyone conducting a tour to discover how to find your passion in a career. The tour you are referring to in your comment interviewed people who are by society's standards, deemed "successful" because they assume a certain title or work for a certain company.

What I've found in my travels is that just because you are a CEO or work for Microsoft does not mean you are passionate. That's why our tour is original, because we are interviewing people that have an infectious enthusiasm for what they do. This means we could interview anyone from the janitor that loved cleaning up the SHRM conference to the CEO of Jobing.

The reason? Because I believe success is not determined by your standing in society, but by the personal happiness you have in life. And to be happy in life you've got to love your work, because the vast majority of your life is spent there.
