Blog Post: Even a Duck Can Drown -- the keys to building your resilience.

You have heard the saying "let it roll off of you, like water off a duck's back." But did you know that ducks aren't always water resilient? There are certain key elements a duck needs to develop that water resilience!
Resilience is the capacity to not only survive life's challenges, but to learn and grow from them, to become stronger as a result of such challenges. While stress, trauma, adversity, and dramatic change are rarely welcome, your personal resilience enables you to find a way to move beyond the challenge and toward a stronger self. This capacity, a key factor in determining how people will respond to change, is something that each of us can grow and strengthen in our lives. We are living in uncertain times: the difficult economic situation, companies cutting their workforce in order to survive, and a governmental bailout like no other! Your personal and professional resilience is a great commodity to have. You may need it to handle foreboding corporate announcements, each of which causes you to fear for your job. You may need it during a job search as you overcome interview after interview to find the job that's right for you (and you for it!) Using the metaphor of a duck’s waterproofing; ASTD-Orange County is devoting its Monthly Event to exploring the keys to building your personal and professional resilience! The session will focus on the power of resilience and the characteristics that enable someone to be resilient, and provide you with the tips to develop your resilience, so that the worries of today can roll off your shoulders like, well, water off a duck's back. Event details can be found in our community Event Calendar.
