Blog Post: "Say how did you get that cool new job?"

posted Monday, May 5, 2008 7:31 AM

Martha I. Finney helps companies improve their performance by attracting, keeping and inspiring high-passion, high-performing talent. This posting is based on the principles from her new book, The Truth About Getting the Best From People . For the full collection of her extended blogs, including, "Why I Love HR,” visit www.hrjourneys.blogspot.com. Contact her at martha@marthafinney.com

Hi you guys! This is going to be short and sweet. I had an idea this morning and I wanted to run it by you:

This morning I'm reading one of my fave blogs (www.crazysexycancer.blogspot.com) and the current guest blogger is by a guy who had an epiphany re humane eating, decided he wanted to work in the humane activism field. And long to short: He now has a job with The Humane Society of the United States. His job: teaching compassion.

Well, can I just say: Wow. And it prompted me to ask him (members of the studio audience, this is where you chime in):

"HOW DID YOU GET YOUR COOL NEW JOB?"

And then that gave me the idea...would you guys be interested in a regular Jobing.com feature about people who really have the perfect job for them and how they got it? Personally I think I would enjoy doing it, but it will take some time, effort, commitment and focus. So I want to make sure it will be read.

Please vote with your fingertips and let me know via email that you would enjoy such a regular feature. And I'll obey the wishes of the vox Jobing populii.

(Personally I think it would be fun to do, but it's even better when I hear from readers about it.)

Oh, and by the way, if you write to me with either a yay or nay, I'll send you the pdf copy of my first book Find Your Calling, Love Your Life. It might make you feel better.

Martha

A special note from Martha:   If you’re a manager, your company is counting on you to be an engaging leader. But what exactly does that mean? And how do you do engagement? Just because you’re brilliant at your technical skills, that doesn’t mean that you’re a natural at people skills. New managers need a book that can help them figure it out in simple, straightforward ideas.

That’s why I wrote The Truth About Getting the Best From People. It’s a book made up of 49 short, simple truths designed to help new managers understand how their beliefs and behaviors directly impact their employees’ passion factor on the job.

Click on the title and check it out! I hope you’ll enjoy it!
